30 Days of Activism in 2024

We made history!

In response to the absence of healthcare inclusion and equity in the delivery of good and affordable healthcare services in Africa, Pioneer Medical Initiative embarked on a remarkable journey titled 30 Days of Activism.

This project was aimed at not only pushing awareness for a change in the African healthcare delivery system but was also a call for all healthcare practitioners, hospitals, organizations, community leaders and individuals to help ignite actionable changes in healthcare accessibility and break the barriers that hinder healthcare equity and inclusivity as a whole. As the curtains close on this endeavour, it’s imperative to look back on its purpose, impact and the valuable lessons gleaned along the way.

PMI 30 Days of Activism

At its core, 30 Days of Activism was a call to action, rallying all individuals, communities and health organizations to confront healthcare disparities like income, status, geographical location and other socio-economic barriers at the root.

By extensively dedicating a month to advocate for healthcare equity, inclusion and sustainability through physical and online advocacy and activism, we sought to spotlight issues ranging from access to healthcare to affordability of quality healthcare services and inclusion.

Through multifaceted approaches and campaigns such as Walk for Health, the Storytelling for Impact Challenge, and our social media campaigns, the project aimed to foster one unique goal; healthcare equity, inclusion, and sustainability.

Amplifying marginalized voices

The impact of 30 Days of Activism sprung past the confines of its duration. Through our concerted efforts and consistent activism, we amplified marginalized voices and stories, brought these underserved communities into the spotlight, and pursued active change.

We began with online campaigns highlighting healthcare disparities and barriers, and transformative ways to combat these barriers. These campaigns involved volunteers and healthcare enthusiasts nationwide, cheering us on.

We took our advocacy offline as well! Pioneer Medical Initiative Networks at Ile-Ife and Akure in partnership with international organisations including Enactus, Red Cross, BAMSSA, and NiMSA-SCOPH organised Walk for Health events in both cities.

💙 These walks promoted the need for a change in healthcare policies, inclusion and a revolutionization of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

This left an indelible mark on the blueprints of healthcare advocacy. The effects of our efforts continue to ripple and inspire other initiatives, also fostering a pathway for revolutionizing the healthcare delivery in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

What we learnt

As with any ambitious project, ours was not without its challenges and opportunities for growth. Throughout this project, we learnt the importance of collaboration, consistency and determination. From forging valued and sustained partnerships with local organizations to leveraging digital platforms, this project underscored the significance of synergy in effecting meaningful change. More than ever, the 30 Days of Activism highlights the need for continued unity in advocating for healthcare equity and inclusion in these marginalized communities.

We are not yet done!

As we close the curtains on 30 Days of Activism, it should not be viewed as an endpoint but rather a catalyst for transformation in the healthcare sector.

In retrospect, it served as a testament to the power of collective activism and determination, demonstrating that even the most daunting of challenges can be overcome through unity and consistency. Moving forward, let us carry forth the spirit of advocacy and unity defined in this initiative and continue to strive towards a future where healthcare is truly accessible and affordable to all, regardless of race, background, income, status or location.
